So finally Karzzzz has released with all it's extra zzz's. But believe you me, it does not induce sleep like the zzzz's suggest. In fact I would safely say that it is quite entertaining to watch this remake of the highly successful film by the same name (of course without the extra zzz's) made by Subhash Ghai way back in time. Himesh Reshammiya lives upto all the hype he has been generating about Karzzzz. I mean we have to give it to this guy. He works hard and he markets himself even harder. I saw it with my family in a hall which wa
s almost packed full. This reminds me of a phrase I read about Himesh sometime back- 'You can hate him, you can love him, but you canNOT ignore him' although I wish the director would have edited the film a little more or at least re
moved some of the songs from the narrative. But then the film works on all the other quarters. It can even be safely said that it is much more grander and lavish from the earlier Karz. As far as Himesh is concerned, I give him 4 stars. This guy means business and he will achieve what he has set out to achieve. Let's take a look at some of our big film stars, who are now successful actors, when they started out in films. Believe me, none of them exactly started off with a bang. In fact after their first films, they were almost, but written off as actors.
Amitabh Bachchan:
Became a star with Zanjeer. But can you remember films that he did before Zanjeer? Take a look at some of his films before he could become a true star: Saat Hindustani (1969)...Anwar Ali Anwar Bombay Talkie (1969)...Mourner in funeral Sanjog (1970)...Mohan Reshma Aur Shera (1971)...Chhotu Parwana (1971)...Kumar Sen Anand (1971)...Dr. Bhaskar Pyar Ki Kahani (1971)...Ram Chand Raaste Ka Patthar (1972)...Jai Shankar Rai Ek Nazar (1972)...Manmohan Akash Tyagi Bansi Birju (1972)...Birju Bombay To Goa (1972)...Ravi Kumar Saudagar (1973)...Moti Bandhe Haath (1973)...Syamu & Deepak Zanjeer (1973)...Insp. Vijay Khanna
Shahrukh Khan:
Contrary to beliefs, his first film was not Deewana. It was an unknown film called- ‘In which Annie gives it those ones…’ written by Booker prize winner Arundhati Roy (Over-rated). No one saw that film, no one heard about it, no one bothers about it. Then comes the film, Deewana after which Shahrukh went onto do so many idiotic and inane films receiving all sorts of flak for his performance and looks.
Then Baazigar
& Darr happened to him. Take a look at his films before Baazigar & Darr:
Then came Baazigar and Darr. But even after that his choice of films didn’t change. Take a look of his films before ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’.
Only after ‘Dilwale…’ did Shahrukh become what he is today.
Salman Khan:
Agreed he was a hit right from his first film. Girls really liked him and he became the heart throb of the country as he gave hit after hit after hit, even though critics kept panning him for having zero talent in the acting department (they still do that, you know). But then a Salman like star hardly comes often.
Aamir Khan:
Started with a bang then fizzled out in his successive films before ‘Dil’ happened to him.
His Filmography:
Holi
Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak
Raakh
Love Love Love
Tum Mere Ho
Dil
Deewana Mujhsa Nahin
Jawaani Zindabad
Afsana Pyaar ka
Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahin
Started off in an absolutely no brainer but then consolidated with Khiladi. Again went into a downslide as far the choice of films is concerned. Take a look: Saugandh; Dancer; Khiladi; Mr. Bond; Deedar; Ashant; Dil Ki Baazi; Kayda Kanoon; Waqt Humara Hai; Sainik; Elaan; Ye Dillagi; Jai Kishan; Mohra; Main Khiladi Tu Anadi (This was the film after which he came into the big league before losing it all again and then again hitting big time and then again losing it and then again.....and so on...)
Hritik Roshan:
He is such a big star but even now people from the industry say that he can give a hit film only when his father directs or produces the film. Need I say more?
Sunil Shetty:
Received probably the highest number of jibes and flak for his debut film, Balwan. But then survived the onslaught and went onto become the big brother of the film industry.
Let’s look at the films he has un-acted in:
Balwaan
Pehchaan
Anth
Dilwale
Mohra
Gopi Kishen
Hum Hain Bemisaal
Takkar
....Whew! Can't go on....but surely you get the point... There is nothing that Sunil Shetty did which made him such a big star yet he is...
Abhishek Bachchan:
He is one actor who was forced down the audience’s throats, literally. Dismissed as a poor clone of his illustrious father, he gave more than 16 flop films and yet there were films being made with him as the hero. There were rumors too that Big B was financing these films just so that his son can make it.
Saif Ali Khan:
Was criticized so much for his lack of acting skills and dancing talent (even though he maintained that he could dance), that it would have been really difficult for him to make a come back until Rehna Hai tere Dil Mein and Kal Ho Na Ho happened to him. Then after Omkara, he truly started being called a talented actor. And this was a long time after his first film.
Let’s take a look at his filmography:
Ye Dillagi; Main Khiladi Tu Anadi; ...and then a list of B-Graders before 'Dil Chahta Hai'
Ajay Devgan:
His first film, Phool Aur Kaante, was a hit but he as an actor received only brick bats from audiences and critics alike. ‘How can he become a hero? He is so bad looking’ and ‘he can’t act or dance too’. But then look at where he has reached today.
Look at the list of films he has acted in:
(So you see...it does take a lot of work from a lot of people to make a star...)
So it’s not about the criticism. If one sets his heart out and works hard (and most importantly if one has a producer willing to back you up) then one can become a big star in this industry (not necessarily a good actor but a big star).
So I guess, Himesh Reshammiya is in good company definitely.
These are the successful ones. But there were also some who had their break but never really went on to make a name as actors. I mean they are around working still but no one actually believes them to be good actors. Let's take a look at that list too.
Vivek Oberoi:
Got tremendous appreciation for his role in Company directed by RGV. But subsequently he started doing all the roles in the same way he acted as a tapori in his first film. Still criticized by all and sundry especially the audience, it is going to be extremely difficult for him to gain back the confidence of the audience.
Started off in a promising film by Sudhir Mishra. But even when a lot of people tried to make this guy a star actor, one cannot blame anyone because God has not been kind to Shiney as far as the acting talent department is concerned. So there's nothing much anyone can do about it. He'll stick around but for how long, no one can tell.
Zayed Khan:
Doesn’t have anything to write home about. No looks, no acting talent, no special dancing skills, no charisma. Needs a miracle for him to be known as a competent actor or even a star.
Fardeen Khan:
Same as Zayed Khan. Although he has seen a little amount of success but then… (sigh)…
Chandrachud Singh: Who?? right...
